Initially thought it was the best I’d tried but now am searching for something better

When I first heard about tofu cat litter I thought it was a little ridiculous. I was looking for a natural unscented cat litter to replace the old litter because one of my cats has an allergy to pine and grass seed litters (and we hate clay litter) But after looking at reviews I decided to try it. None of the local pet stores carries it and I was a little embarrassed to ask about it and when I did I got some strange looks. So I ordered it from Amazon. This review is for the ORIGINAL (plain) litter (although I will be adding a separate review for the other one that has coffee and bentonite clay added)It arrived later than promised as most of my recent orders have. It came vacuum packed which was interesting. The plastic package is so tough I couldn’t tear it open so I had to get scissors. Then i had to use a knife to cut further down because the scissors didn’t break the vacuum seal.Upon opening it I noticed an odd scent. To me it smelled like powdered milk. Not bad, just odd, especially because this is cat litter. The cats were immediately intrigued and spent about 20 minutes just sitting in front of the box staring at it. Seriously. They both jumped in not long after and even though they’d just gone in the old litter box, they both decided they needed to go again. Here is my take on this litter:ODOR:Pro: it doesn’t have a strong scent (smells like powdered milk) and seems to work well taking care of urine odors but. . .Con: my cats didn’t seem to like the texture on their feet so neither covered up their poo and the litter can’t eliminate the smell of the cats don’t cover up. On the few occasions they did cover it worked but they just don’t like the texture.SCOOPABLE:Pro: clumps urine (if you wait till it hardens)Con:if you try to scoop the urine right away you’ll be dealing with a sticky play dough like consistency which will smear and get stuck in the grooves of the scooper. (Wait a little longer until the clump has a bit of time to dry out and harden before trying to scoop)It also doesn’t really stick to poo so although you will be using less litter for your money, the fact that it doesn’t stick means that you have to be more careful scooping so as not to get that stuck in the scooper. Also, I don’t like the idea that litter has been touching poo but falls off back into the box and is stepped on again by the cats. Seems unsanitary.TRACKING:Pro: this is a low tracking litter that didn’t go far beyond the box, much less than any other litter I’ve tried so far.Con: though advertised as non tracking, it still tracks a few pieces a few feetDUST:Pro: there is almost no dust with this litterFLUSHABILITY:Pro: it does seem to be flushable but. . .Con: it wasn’t instant. You have to give it at least 30 seconds to start to break up before you flush it otherwise the sticky clay like consistency may clog your toilet.PRICE:Con: it’s somewhat expensive for what you get. I have 2 cats and 2 bags lasted them only a couple weeks.Overall I’m fairly happy with the litter. I’m unsure about ordering this one again because I’m still looking for something better. I’m going to try another litter of theirs to see if it’s even better with coffee and bentonite clay added.

No more dust!!!

Amazing! I was afraid my cat was not going to like it because it has a slight essence like vanilla. But she used it with 0 problem and It doesn’t smell bad! And the best part: no more dust!

Love it! No smell at ALL!

Well worth the money. 2 5lb bags last our house (1 cat, less than a year old) 1.5 months. Our cat immediately liked the product. She began investigating it the second we made the switch. This is far less messy than standard clumping litter. I LITERALLY mean this leaves ZERO smell. No gross ammonia hitting you in the face. The bags take up less room. All around a more convenient and cost effective product. I’ve been recommending it to all cat owners I know.

Clump Magic! Better for you and your cat.

I was on the search for the best litter for my kitten. Since she is still young (3 months at the time) it was easy to get her to convert to a tofu based litter. The odd thing that nobody mentions is the weird instinct for the cat to eat the fresh litter, she did not react this way to clay litter. Something to do with the tofu smell, I recommend mixing the new batch with a bit of the old soil/litter so the cat is aware this is not food! It is safe to eat in small amounts for the cat, from my understanding. She only does this in the beginning with a clean new batch, after she uses the bathroom she no longer eats it. The tofu smell is slightly sweet smell like Vanilla, no more of that nasty ammonia smell with clay litters. Tracking is very minimal, usually just a few pieces outside of the litter box. We tried mixing it with wood pellets, I think I saw someone mention this on a review as a money saver, DO NOT RECOMMEND. The wood pellets disintegrate meanwhile the clay litters clumps, it just makes it tough to clean as the products do the opposite. The tofu litter clumps very well, it does not break apart like some of the clay litter I have used. Also it makes me feel better that both me and my cat do not have to inhale those bad chemicals, better ingredients. The downside is it is a expensive product but the pros outweigh the cons. I hope they have a Black Friday mark down! If you want to put away your vacuum and broom for daily litter cleans up around the box, try the tofu litter! Easy cleaning. I took one star down due to the pricing and not sure how well this item claims to disintegrate. I accidentally got a piece on my steamer microfiber cover (during a floor clean) and after two washes it is still on there. But overall still a great product!

The best litter I've ever used...but bags are small

I have tried every cat litter on the planet besides tofu litter. A couple of years ago I finally got so sick of cat litter I cut a hole in the side of my house and put in a cat door and made my cats go out to the dog yard to poo and pee. It's been working great but my oldest cat doesn't like going out anymore so I'm back to looking for a litter and I discovered tofu litter. I purchased the tofu litter that is pure tofu with cornstarch. It's creamy white with a pleasant fragrance like vanilla. My cat instantly accepted it. It does track a bit, but it's less annoying than other litters that track around. It clumps wonderfully in just seconds. So far it's covering all odors. The 5.3 lb bag barely fills the bottom of my cat box as you can see in the picture. I'll start buying it in a four pack. There are less expensive brands that I may try and compare but if your skeptical give this stuff a try because it is a game changer. But know you will need a larger slot cat scoop because the long pieces get caught up in a standard cat scoop. Love, love, lovethis litter.
